Adoption Process
Foster Edition
Here is what you need to know about the dog adoption process.
We will copy you on the approval email to potential adopters. Please review their application and let us know if you have any questions
The potential adopter should contact you asap to set up an initial meeting. Please check your email and respond in a timely manner. It is also OK for you to reach out to them if you prefer. Please have the first meeting at your earliest convenience. If you do not hear from them or if they are unable to meet within 3-4 days, please let our adoption coordinator know as we may proceed with another application.
If only application was received then please proceed with Virtual Meet and Greet
If all requested documentation was received then you may proceed with in person meet and greet. Photo id, Virtual home visit (photos, video of outside and inside living spaces, Proof of pets allowed in the home (proof of ownership of home i.e.: insurance, tax statement, deed, mortgage statement or pet policy in lease agreement)
The initial meeting with the potential adopters should be a Zoom meeting using HDBnQ Rescue Zoom Meeting Room. During this time tell them about your foster pet, their personality as you’ve seen it so far, how they’re doing in your home, and any basic information you’d like to share with them that we may have provided when you received your foster. Ask them any questions you have about their home situation. Many will ask if they’re pet is good with other dogs, kids, cats, etc.
If they have questions about the adoption process please direct them first to the website: www.hdbnqrescue.org/process
If they still have additional questions have them email Leadfoster@hdbnqrescue.org

If, after the virtual meeting, they want to meet the pet in person, they must submit the requested documentation. Then you may arrange an in person meeting.
If you are fostering multiple pups, the applicant can only adopt 1. We do not adopt multiple pups of the same litter to the same home due to Sibling Syndrome. If the dog is already altered, they can go home with an adopter at the end of the in person meeting. If not altered the dog will remain with the foster until altered or Foster - to -Adopt.
Potential adopters are told to bring collar/leash/crate with them to bring their new dog home. Feel free to send your foster dog with their favorite toy, blanket, etc. but please return all unused supplies washed and ready for the next foster (unless you plan to foster again within a week)
Sometimes Applicants forget to tell us they want to adopt but they will let the foster know. Please contact our adoption coordinator Henry at application@hdbnqrescue.org when the adopter has decided they want to adopt. He will send the adopter a link to pay the adoption fee and finalize the adoption. Once the adoption fee is paid, the adopter will receive the dog’s contract and medical records and the microchip transfer will be initiated.
