  • We are looking for volunteers who can commit to fostering underage kittens in their homes for an average of 4 to 8 weeks. Kittens in the Foster program are largely those who are too young for adoption and who need a nurturing environment until they old enough for adoption.

  • Foster volunteers care for the kittens in their home, ensuring that their basic needs for food, warmth, safety, and socialization are met, while closely monitoring their health and growth. As their caretakers, foster parents schedule and bring in their kittens for regular vaccine appointments. We will supply all medicine and veterinary care for the kitten you foster. When funds allow we can also help provide some supplies.

  • As a foster parent, you will be responsible for feeding, cleaning, socializing, and cuddling your kittens. In some cases, you may need to bottle feed, give medications or transport the kittens to the veterinarian.

  • In terms of space, you don't need much. A laundry room, bathroom, or extra bedroom is helpful, but a cage set up in the corner of your bedroom or den can work just fine. Depending on how old the kittens are, you'll be caring for them for one to eight weeks.

  • We take in Mama Cats who will also need placement after kittens are weaned. Some cats may come from the streets and will need an extra love and attention to acclimate them to life inside the home. Others might be surrendered cats that just need to find their furever home.

  • Foster volunteers care for the cats in their home, ensuring that their basic needs for food, warmth, safety, and socialization are met, while closely monitoring their health. Cats will come fixed and fully vaccinated. Any known health issues will be disclosed. We will supply all medicine and veterinary care for the cat you foster. When funds allow we can also help provide some supplies.

Foster FAQ

  • When you foster you are saving multiple lives. Fostering a pet helps the pet(s) you are fostering and also opens up a spot in the shelter for another animal to be saved.

  • HDBnQ prefers that people who are looking for a furever family member to foster first. It is better to get an idea of the responsibility prior to making a lifetime commitment.

  • It is best for pets to be able to decompress in place they can be familiar with. We ask for a minimum of a two week foster commitment when you start.

Occasionally we are in need of short-term fosters

  • See photos above for pets that are in need of fosters.

  • It is possible to adopt your foster pet but we do review all applications. We strive to match the pet to their ideal living situation.
